Minister Anand Visits Felix Technology Inc. – $44.4M Radar Contract for Canadian Coast Guard

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, announced that the Government of Canada has awarded a $40.1-million contract to Felix Technology Inc., based in Concord, Ontario, for 36 new shore-based radars and related equipment for the Canadian Coast Guard—a move set to modernize Canada’s maritime navigation capabilities.

The investment falls under the federal government’s world-leading Oceans Protection Plan, which aims to ensure that the Canadian Coast Guard is equipped with the tools it needs to safeguard Canada’s vast and complex coastline.

“We are committed to providing the women and men of the Canadian Coast Guard with the equipment that they need to best protect our waters and keep us safe from coast to coast to coast,” said The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services and Procurement. “This investment in modern radar equipment will allow the Coast Guard to continue performing its critically important work, while supporting jobs for hard-working Canadians.”

Scope and Impact of the Project

The contract supports:

  • Installation of 11 new radar sites on Canada’s east and west coasts (10 of which are funded by the Oceans Protection Plan)
  • Replacement of 23 aging radar systems at existing Coast Guard posts
  • Delivery of 2 radars for testing and training purposes

The new radar systems are expected to operate 24/7, offering reliable and accurate vessel tracking to reduce marine incidents, support emergency response, and enhance maritime security.

“Radar sites are essential to the work of the Canadian Coast Guard, providing us with reliable, accurate information on vessel movement in Canadian waters, which helps to reduce the risk of marine incidents and emergencies,” said The Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. “Through investments like this our government is working to make Canada’s waters and coasts safer and cleaner today and for the future.”

Local Benefit and National Strategy

The radar project is also expected to support approximately 20 Canadian jobs, delivering not only safety benefits but also economic value to Canadian communities.

“Through our Oceans Protection Plan, we are making real progress to strengthen marine safety while protecting Canada’s marine environment,” added The Honourable Marc Garneau, then Minister of Transport. “Enhanced radar support for the Canadian Coast Guard will improve the way we prevent and respond to all kinds of incidents.”
